Don’t just hear about the future of the oil sands—come experience it. Step inside the Innovation Lounge, sponsored by Alberta Innovates, where some of the technologies transforming how we work, train, monitor and operate will be live and hands-on. Operate heavy equipment more than 2,500 km away. Take the controls of advanced equipment simulators. Explore how drones are being deployed in the field. This is your chance to see, touch and operate real-world innovation—and discover how technology is changing what’s possible in the oil sands.
Finning will be demonstrating the Cat Command Remote Control Technology by operating equipment over 2,500km away. From the operator station, our operator will complete earthmoving activities with those units and have the ability to switch between multiple machine types to complete their task. Finning will also be demonstrating the SimLite for a D8 dozer which is a compact, portable simulator for training operators on the use of machines before they enter a cab. Expo attendees will have the opportunity to try the SimLite by completing tasks on our this simulator.
Welding Simulator
Visitors will see a welding simulator that provides an interactive introduction to welding. They will learn about basic welding techniques, accuracy, safety, and how simulation technology can be used for skills training.
Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) – Hydraulic Board
Visitors will see a working hydraulic training board and learn how hydraulic systems and components operate together. The exhibit will provide an introduction to hydraulics and their important role in heavy equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) – CAT Dozer Simulator
Visitors will experience a CAT dozer simulator and see how simulation technology is used to train heavy equipment operators. They will learn about basic equipment controls, safe operation, and the skills involved in operating heavy machinery.
Visitors will see 3D printers in action and learn how digital designs are transformed into physical objects. They will also learn about the applications of 3D printing in prototyping, manufacturing, education, and innovation.
Professional Drone
Visitors will see a drone and learn about how drone technology is used in industry. Applications such as aerial inspection, surveying, monitoring, imaging, and data collection will be highlighted.
Display Screen - WBRIN Programs and Opportunities
Visitors will be able to explore additional programs, initiatives, and opportunities available through WBRIN. The screen will showcase information about current and upcoming activities, technologies, training opportunities, and other ways to engage with WBRIN.
